On April 19, 2008
around 8:00 a.m., the 2008 Wagonmaster
will lead the mail wagon from Porterville to Springville following
his route of choosing. Riders from all over are welcome and
encouraged to join the Wagonmaster by gathering at the parking lot
across from the Porterville Fair Grounds on Olive Avenue. All
riders are to have their animals ready to leave by 8:30 a.m. if they
wish to participate. A police escort will be on hand to ensure
everyone stays together and remains under control and safe to the
other riders and on-lookers.
The route will be as follows:
The Wagonmaster will begin at the City Hall in
downtown Porterville with his posse and the mail wagon and travel to
the Porterville Elks Lodge on Main Street
to load up the mail. Then it's off to the Porterville Fair
Grounds on Olive Avenue to meet up with dozens (or more) of riders
that plan to follow the mail towards Springville. From the
Fair Grounds, the procession will continue south on Plano to Corona
Drive that connects with Springville Drive shortly after.
Heading east on Springville Drive all the way to Road 284 that
connects to Highway 190. After a short break at Success
Market, everyone will cross the Highway together and continue east
towards Springville. A lunch stop is planned at The Antlers.
After an extended rest to allow the animals and riders to regain
some energy, the entourage continues up Hwy. 190 until they reach
the Springville Rodeo Grounds. This is the end of the trail
for the public. However, after a short break, the Wagonmaster
and his posse will escort the mail wagon on into Springville where a
gang of rebels are rumored to have plans of stopping the mail wagon.
It will be up to the Wagonmaster and his posse to protect the mail
and deliver it safely to the Springville Post Office.

The
Ride
Don't miss all the happenings in
Springville that same day, including the infamous "shoot
out" around 4:00.

A MESSAGE TO PARTICIPANTS:
- Please ensure your animal is in good
health and condition for this all day ride.
- Stay together. Do not linger behind.
The police and CHP officers will enforce this rule,
especially when crossing major roads and highways.
- Be responsible and don't do anything
stupid. We have held this event for many years and each
year it seems to get a little more difficult to get approval
from the authorities to hold it. We encourage everyone to
have fun but please consider your fellow riders before doing
anything we might all regret.
-
The Wagonmaster
and his posse will be shooting their guns off throughout the
day so keep a tight hold on your animal at all times. Live
ammunition is not allowed. All guns will be loaded
with blanks only.
- The Mail Run will have portable
restrooms available at designated stops. Please do not use
the shrubbery along the route to relieve yourself.
- There are 3 recommended locations where
we feel it is best for you to unload or load your animals
safely and we encourage you to use them. They are:
Porterville Fair Grounds, Success Market, and The Antlers.
For those riders not wishing to travel the entire route, the
last 2 locations have been used safely in the past.
- You must provide your own transportation
of your animals at the end of the ride. Whether you decide
you've had enough at the lunch stop or make it all the way
to the Rodeo grounds, you must have a trailer ready to load
your animals in. The Mail Run does not provide
transportation or rides.
- Lastly, have fun. That's what it's all
about.
Sincerely,
The
Wagonmaster
